Cumberland Council piloted two new collection methods to make electrical recycling easier: 31 drop-off points across libraries and council buildings, and the weekly mobile ‘Recycling Rambler’ service for 20,000 households in Copeland.
In six months, they collected a total of 5.87 tonnes of small electricals, including 0.96 tonnes donated for reuse. The Rambler was particularly valued in rural areas, with 344 residents using the service.
The pilot provided valuable insights into what works best for rural areas. They are unable to afford to maintain the Rambler and collection points, but will continue to use the Recycle Your Electricals branded assets to encourage residents to recycle their electricals at other drop off points.
