Mid Sussex District Council added small electricals and textiles to its fortnightly kerbside recycling by fitting collection lorries with underslung cages. The council also licensed its depot to store and process the new materials safely. A communications campaign using bin hangers, adverts, and social media showed residents how to take part.
The pilot proved so successful that the service was made permanent, collecting over 49 tonnes of electricals in 12 months and helping reduce waste in bins.
After using funding to pilot the service, Mid Sussex has rolled out kerbside small electricals recycling on a fortnightly basis across the area.
