Mid Devon District Council introduced a fortnightly kerbside collection for small electricals, making it easy for residents to recycle them alongside their usual service. Communications through press adverts, vehicle banners, and social media helped spread the word.
The pilot tripled electrical collections, with skips filling faster than expected. A related trial of general waste collections every three weeks halved residual waste. The pilot showed how small changes in service design can make a big difference to recycling habits.
