Community drop-off points, reuse and vape recycling

Durham County Council expanded electrical recycling by adding 25 new bring banks and introducing a countywide vape recycling system, with 77 vape bins and facilities at all 13 Household Waste Recycling Centres.

In 2024/25, the council collected 22.81 tonnes of small electricals and around 120,400 vapes. A further 2 tonnes of electricals were reused, supported by Repair Cafés that trained over 40 new community volunteers.

The pilot will continue. Future collections and project operations will be managed as a shared responsibility within existing waste teams
