Merthyr Tydfil Council hired a dedicated door-to-door officer to boost kerbside collections of small electricals. The officer checked bins, spoke with residents, and encouraged them to put electricals out with their usual recycling. Reusable items went to a local shop to be tested, cleaned, and sold, keeping valuable products in use. With leaflets, vehicle banners and social media the pilot improved awareness and showed that face-to-face engagement can drive real change.
After the pilot ended in March 2021, the council continued to promote its kerbside battery collection and bulky electrical collection services via social media.
