Richmond Council made it easier for residents to recycle electricals by installing 20 outdoor bring banks across the borough and equipping waste trucks with cages for small items. This meant people could drop off items or leave them out with their regular recycling. Bin stickers, vehicle signs, and social media helped spread the word.
The pilot collected over 48 tonnes of small electricals from bring banks and 3.1 tonnes from kerbside rounds, boosting monthly recycling by more than 8%.
Both the bring banks and kerbside collections will continue for the foreseeable future.
